Video Transcript:

Hello, traders. Welcome to the NinjaTrader Tutorial and the first module, Introduction to the NinjaTrader. In this lesson, I’m going to teach you how to connect your brokerage account to your NinjaTrader platform and how to connect the data feed to it. Now, I’m going to be using a simulated Continuum data feed connection for this example but when I will show you how to connect the brokerage account, it’s basically the same for all brokers.

So, the first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to have a look at the NinjaTrader platform and this is how the NinjaTrader platform looks like, when you’ve just download it. There’s nothing going on, no strategies, no execution, no positions and no accounts, etc., because you have not connected anything to it. Now, the first thing we need to do is we need to plug the license key onto the NinjaTrader platform so the NinjaTrader knows which brokerage account we’re going to be using and of course, the NinjaTrader needs to know also if we are using a free version of the NinjaTrader, a leased version, or a bought version of the platform. And every version of the platform has a different license key and the license key will be given to you by NinjaTrader on an email.

NinjaTrader License Key

So, the first thing we need to go is we need to go to our email account and you’re going to get this license key email. What you need to do is you need to copy and paste this license key onto the license key tab right here. Once the license key is entered, you just click “OK” and the platform will be ready to add the brokerage account.

Connecting NinjaTrader to Broker

Now, we’re going to go back to my email account because I have the username and password of my brokerage account there, but the first thing, actually, we’re going to do is we’re going to add a new account. And to do so, you have to go to “Tools” and to “Account Connections.” Here, you have all the account connections that, well, I do have another few accounts that I use, or account connections that I use, but I’m going to add a new one. You click on the add button right here and you’re going to be prompted to create a new connection. You click on next and let’s give this connection a name and let’s call it “English II Demo.” All right? And we are going to be using the NinjaTrader Continuum but, as you see, you can actually link any brokerage account that you already have to it. And we’re going to enable historical data and click on next.

NinjaTrader Username

Now, we’re going to go to my email so I can get my username and password and then we’re going to continue with this connection creation. All right. I already copied and pasted my username and password and I’m in a demo mode, so I’m going to click next and I’m going to click finish. And I’m going to accept the OCO handling disclaimer, so my connection can be created.

Now, let’s try and see if this connection works. Whenever you create a new connection, you have to test it and you just go to connect and then you just choose the connection that you just created and you just wait and see what happens. What needs to happen is the NinjaTrader is going to start connecting to this connection. And, as you can see right here, NinjaTrader is trying to connect. You can see on the bottom left of your platform and we’re just going to wait a little bit for the connection to establish.NinjaTrader Success Screen

Okay, as you can see right here on the bottom left of our platform, we are connected to Continuum with the English II Demo account. As you can see right here, if we go to accounts, we will have the English II Demo account ready to be traded. If you are looking to connect any other brokers or brokerage accounts, the steps are the same and you just have to follow them and test the connection, once you finish introducing all the details.
