Changing the Horizontal and Vertical Scale

Video Transcript:

Hello, traders. Welcome to the NinjaTrader tutorial and the second module, Charting. In this lesson, I’m going to show you how to work with the horizontal and vertical scale on your charts, how to make them thicker, how to make them less thick, how to scroll through them, and how to zoom in and zoom out.

So, let’s go to the Euro/U.S. dollar four hour chart and the first thing you will notice is that, well, you can scroll through the chart with this horizontal bar on the bottom of the chart. Okay? And you will notice that when you scroll to the left of the chart, this icon will appear at the top right of the chart. If you click this icon, it will get you back to the actual price action. If you scroll to the right, the icon will be white, but it will still bring you back to the current price action when you click on it.

Now, you can zoom in and zoom out on your chart by clicking on the actual horizontal axis and holding it, and moving your mouse left and right. If you click on the horizontal axis and you move your mouse right, it will thicken out your chart. And if you move it left, it will zoom in on your chart. Okay? The same thing goes for the vertical axis. If you click on the vertical axis and you move your mouse down, it will shrink your chart. And if you click on the horizontal axis and you move the mouse up, it will make it bigger. Now, you will notice that, when you play with the horizontal and vertical axis, this little F will appear on your chart. And, if you click with the F, it will return back to a perfect fit on your window. Okay?

Now, another thing that I wanted to show you is the thickness of the candles. As you notice right here, I’m working with somewhat slim candles on my charts, because that’s my preference. But you can easily change that by clicking on this icon right here that says bar style. Now, what this will do is, well, you can actually choose to have a box of candlestick align or a high/low type of bar. But let’s go with candlesticks, okay? And right here, you can choose the spacing of these candlesticks. And, as you can see, the spacing between each one of my candlesticks is not that big.

So, what I’m going to do, I’m going to space out the candlesticks, okay, and I’m going to make them thicker. And when you want to make them thicker, you just choose the bar width to go up. And you can see that the thickness of the bar will go up with it. And, of course, you can always shrink your charts by playing with the horizontal axis, and that is actually how you visually improve your charts to your personal preference.
